..For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of thoughts that once I had
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad..
Hello. My name is Thom Yorke, these are my many thoughts; incoherent, unsatisfying, and rarely inspired. I sing in a band, but mostly I like to shop. I am kept grounded by my girlfriend Rachel, and encouraged in my immaturity by my son Noah, who helps me write ditties. If you talk to me, I will talk back. You are a good person. You are OK.
..with help from my clever little friend..
"I’m happy, thanks—you cunt. If my emotional state does not please someone, then I apologise profusely. It’s easy to be miserable. Being happy is tougher—and cooler."
"Our moms usually get together every Sunday and smoke grass."
"A lot of people just seem to think we are this serious, humourless band, but a lot of things we do are really funny. On ‘Airbag’ we had great times. There was a party going on for about 3 days in a row. By the end of it, the studio was just a fucking pit of all sorts of digusting things—half finished bottles, of wine and beer spilled on the desk and ashtrays were everywhere. It was great. We do play cards and bridge and shit like everybody says we do all the time. But then, we do smoke crack in the bathroom afterwards."
"I totally fear all women. Ever since I’ve been at school. I would go for five months without talking to a girl of my age. I don’t think it’s misogyny. It’s the total opposite. It’s blatant fear."
"Other bands really wind me up. I’m very competitive and antagonistic. I just hate meeting other bands. The British scene is so insular, so petty and so fucking bitchy I just don’t want to have any contact with it. That’s why we’ve never moved to London. If we did, that would be it. We’d last a month and then split up."
"Us on hard drugs? That would be horrible. We'd probably end up sounding like Bryan Adams. My girlfriend has this quote in her sketchbook: Remain orderly in your life so you can be free and chaotic in your work. I think basically you lose it when you destroy your brain or destroy yourself emotionally or burn yourself up."
